Good morning SoundLoungers!
Today is the day, and to get everyone excited for The Mistakings playing the Symphony Hall Foyer we did a Q+A with the band…
Are you excited to be playing (and kickstarting!) Project SoundLounge festival?
It’s brilliant to be part of SoundLounge, we have a lot of friends who have been involved in it and the festival itself is going to be so exciting. We love that they’re supporting young artists like us.
Who are your musical influences?
We have loads of different influences, because our sound is such a mixture. Country singers like Emmylou Harris and Iris DeMent, traditional English and Celtic folk, Joni Mitchell, pirates. We’re influenced by a lot of Classical stuff like Shostakovich, because we met when we played in a Symphony orchestra together. Balkan folk music too, and Laura Marling, who we saw play at Symphony Hall.
What would your dream support slot be?
It would be so cool to support Bellowhead, not that they need any help to get the crowd going!
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Carthy, Hardy, Farrell and Young’s album, we saw them at MadFest in Barnsley last summer. Can’t stop listening to First Aid Kit’s new song, too.
As this festival celebrates local Midlands talent, who are your favourite artists from the region?
We’d have to say Johnny Kowalski and the Sexy Weirdos and Driftwood Store, both of whom we collaborate with, as well as the Mellow Peaches and of course The Destroyers.
